If you’re considering buying a pickup truck of any size, Consumer Reports is one of the most trusted experts to find reviews. For both full-size and midsize trucks, Nissan models ranked higher than Chevy. This is interesting because Chevy is one of the most popular truck automakers. According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Nissan Titan and Frontier are better than the 2022 Chevy Silverado and Colorado.

In Consumer Reports‘ full-size truck rankings, the 2022 Nissan Titan and 2022 Chevy Silverado are not recommended. However, only the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra received a recommendation. The Nissan and Chevy trucks are ranked far below the best models. Moreover, Nissan’s full-size offering outranked the Silverado by a hefty margin. One place ahead in the rankings, what makes the Titan the better option?
CR loves the Titan’s smooth and powerful standard 5.6-liter V8 engine. In addition, it loves that the tailgate is light and requires little effort to lift. As for luxuriousness, the interior of the Titan is surprisingly spacious and filled with standard safety features. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and lane departure warning are all standard.
Alternatively, despite a low predicted reliability rating for the Titan, the Silverado is even worse. Although automatic emergency braking is standard, it’s missing the many other standard safety features Nissan provides. Next, the standard engine is a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder, which is far less impressive than the Titan V8. CR also noted an exceptionally high step-in height, meaning optional side steps are probably required for most owners.

Alternatively, Consumer Reports recommends three compact or midsize trucks for 2022. They are the Honda Ridgeline, Ford Maverick, and Ford Ranger. Neither the Nissan nor Chevy trucks received the coveted “recommended” label. However, the Frontier did manage to score higher than the Colorado in most ways. After all, the Chevy truck finished ahead of only the Jeep Gladiator in the CR rankings.
CR highlighted the braking, transmission, and controls of the 2022 Nissan Frontier. For braking, it has good stability on wet and dry surfaces and performed well for short stopping distances. Moreover, its dry-surface stopping distance is better than every truck in its class. CR also called the nine-speed automatic transmission the “truck’s best aspect.” Its smooth shift is a welcomed addition to a regularly violent-shifting class of trucks. Lastly, the controls and infotainment system are straightforward to use.
As for the 2022 Chevy Colorado, it falls short in a lot more ways. CR complains of a stiff, choppy ride and an underpowered engine in the V6. In addition, the driving position is “awkward,” making the driver uncomfortable. Much of that is attributed to the lack of adjustment range for the standard cloth seats. However, CR did note that it has a quieter and better ride than Nissan and Toyota competitors.

In conclusion, Consumer Reports says Nissan trucks outrank Chevy trucks in most ways. Although both automakers make excellent pickups, the Nissan models win overall. Nissan trucks are better with outstanding standard engines, smooth-shifting transmissions, and high-quality interior controls and features. Fortunately, the 2022 Chevy Colorado is due for a redesign in 2023, so we expect a heavily improved product. However, Consumer Reports likes the 2022 Nissan Titan and Frontier better than the 2022 Chevy Silverado and Colorado.
